Treatment for Conditions of the Hand, Wrist & Arm

The Hand & Upper Extremity Program at Allied Services provide comprehensive rehabilitation services to people with conditions and injuries involving the hand, wrist, and arm. Our team of specially trained occupational therapists diagnose and treat hand and upper extremity dysfunction, as well as evaluate any assistive equipment needs. The therapists help patients regain the skills needed to regain functional use of the arm to maximize performance with activities for daily living for home, work, and leisure. Certified Hand Therapists (CHTs) and those with other specialized certifications help to successfully rehabilitate the most clinically challenging patients.

Specialty Services

Certified hand therapists

A CHT is an occupational or physical therapist with a minimum of five years of clinical experience, including 4,000 hours or more in direct practice in hand therapy. They are required to successfully pass a comprehensive test of advanced clinical skills and theory in upper quarter rehabilitation.

Splint fabrication

Splint fabrication is critical to the success of rehabilitation after an injury or surgical treatment. After an initial assessment, our therapists will determine the most effective splint design for that patient’s specific requirements.

Work simulation/work readiness

Our team will provide a goal-oriented, individualized program designed to evaluate and rehabilitate injured workers experiencing a delayed recovery, getting them back to work as quickly as possible.

Ergonomic assessments

Our experts will work to eliminate work-related ergonomic Risk factors and prevent or reduce workplace-acquired musculoskeletal injuries.

Activities of daily living (ADL) training

Activities of daily living are routine functions that people tend to do every day. Our therapists evaluate and rehabilitate activities such as eating, bathing, dressing, toileting, mobility, and continence.

Wound care

Wound care is provided as needed.

Referrals & Insurance

Patients need a prescription from their doctor in order to enroll in the hand and upper extremity program at Allied Services. Insurance coverage for this program is provided by most health insurance policies.

Physicians can begin the referral process online or by contacting our admissions office. This service is offered free of charge. Admissions typically begin within 24 hours of receiving a referral.
