PEOPLE ON THE MOVE: ALLIED SERVICES INTEGRATED HEALTH SYSTEM
Allied Services Integrated Health System announces changes that will build on and enhance the strategic leadership of its Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Located in Scranton, Allied Services Skilled Nursing & Rehabilitation Center is a 371-bed facility providing comprehensive care for both long and short-term patients including specialized respiratory services, wound care, pain management, as well as care for people with Alzheimer’s disease and other related dementias.
PIAZZA SMITH
Allied Services Integrated Health System announces that in September 2018, Laura Piazza Smith, RN, BSN, NHA, will transition from her current position as Vice President and Administrator of Allied Services Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center and she will assume a new role as the non-profit organization’s first Chief Nursing Innovation Officer.
Under her leadership, the Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center introduced the region’s only post-acute, 24 hour respiratory unit. The facility also earned a 5-star ranking for patient care from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid (CMS). In addition, Smith has been leading an extensive remodeling effort of the entire Skilled Nursing Center, including installation of high-tech sensory and memory-care technology in an enhanced environment within the facility’s 61-bed memory care unit.
Smith’s leadership has been marked by a dedication to excellence, the safety and development of her staff, and a commitment to seeking the very highest standards of quality patient care. As Administrator, Smith offered more than fifteen years of exemplary leadership at the Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. In her new capacity, Smith will draw on twenty-five years of diverse nursing experience. She will work closely with other members of the management team to advance the highest standards of care, and will direct the development and implementation of new best practices and training, and innovative nursing initiatives across all levels of nursing throughout the Integrated Health System.
COONEY
Allied Services Integrated Health System announced James Cooney, NHA, as Vice President of Skilled Nursing Facilities. Cooney joined Allied Services in 2014 where he led the opening of the new 55-bed Transitional Rehab Unit located in the Allied Services Rehab Hospital, Scranton. Cooney, a graduate of the University of Scranton, is a Pennsylvania Licensed Nursing Home Administrator with over 18 years of professional experience in healthcare. He joined Allied Services after serving as administrator of several other skilled nursing facilities.
Throughout his career, Cooney has worked to uphold the highest safety and quality standards, earning the Transitional Rehab Unit a 5-star ranking from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid (CMS).
