Take Note: local fragrance gets national play in ipsy Glam Bag

Nationally, people are taking Note this month.

Note Fragrances, that is.

The downtown Scranton-based perfumery has a scent featured in this month’s ipsy Glam Bag. Ipsy, a California-based company, sends the personalized, beauty product-filled bags to more than 1.5 million subscribers across the nation each month. A .17 ounce sample bottle of Note’s Pink Peony fragrance is among the products subscribers are receiving January, which is really exciting for the business, owner Danielle Fleming said.

“One of the great things about this is the exposure. We’re really getting our fragrance into people’s hands who would have never came across our brand or seen us in downtown Scranton,” she said.

The national appearance is almost a year in the making, Ms. Fleming said. She reached out to ipsy and pitched her products in April and the company selected Pink Peony, one of Note’s original fragrances, for inclusion in the bag shortly thereafter. Employees at the perfumery then turned to making the fragrance for the ipsy bags and filling the sample-sized vials, a process that required extra help working days, nights and weekends about five weeks to complete. The work was all done inside the Note store at the corner of Wyoming Avenue and Spruce Street, Ms. Fleming said.

The vials in the bags also come in special boxes. Note Fragrances partnered with Allied Services Vocational Services Division in Scranton to assemble the boxes, put the bottles in them and seal them. The vocational division works with local business to offer vocational, training and employment opportunities to people with disabilities, Allied Services Director of External Affairs Charlotte Wright said.

“That local partnership was great and we really wouldn’t have been able to do it without their assistance,” Ms. Fleming said.

Since the bags have gone out this month, Ms. Fleming said the business has seen a surge in orders, mostly full-size bottles of the Pink Peony fragrance and the accompanying body cream, and also collections that feature an assortment of Note products.

Reaction from local ipsy subscribers has also been very enthusiastic, as evidenced by activity on Note Fragrances Facebook and Instagram pages, Ms. Fleming said.

“They’re posting things like, ‘Oh, it’s so cool to get Scranton in my bag,’ ” Ms. Fleming said.
