Life-changing technology for stroke survivors

Speech therapists like Amanda Petrosky, MS, CCC/SLP, are an important part of the stroke recovery team at Allied Services. As Amanda explains in the video below, it's not just speech that can be impacted during a stroke.

She demonstrates the Vital Stim - a device that can help to restore swallowing function, something we all take for granted. This small device includes electrodes that are placed on the face or anterior neck in order to activate the swallowing muscles.

VitalStim therapy is offered as a part of speech therapy services at Allied Services. Stroke, traumatic brain injury, Multiple Sclerosis, Cerebral Palsy, and Parkinson’s are just a few of the many causes of swallow dysfunction.

Recovery swallowing capacity can be one of the steps patients take in order to return home and to the life they love following a life-changing injury.
