Careers in Focus: Personal Care

Finding a career that you love isn’t always that easy. Esther Sintim-Koree considers herself lucky. She’s found her passion.

Esther became a Personal Care Attendant (PCA) more than seven years ago, moving to Allied Services Meade Street Residence in Wilkes-Barre in 2019.

A PCA is a person that works with residents at healthcare facilities to help them with their daily activities. Tasks for a PCA can range from helping residents with their getting dressed, grooming, light housework, or engaging them in activities.

Esther has always had a passion for helping people, and when choosing a career, it seemed like the obvious choice to go into healthcare.

“I used to work for another long-term care facility, but I made the switch to Allied Services a few years ago. I heard about the great things that they do, and after talking with a few people, including my husband, we all came to the same conclusion: Allied Services would be a great company to work for.”

“Now that I’ve been here for a while, I can definitely say that I made the right choice. I absolutely love everything that I do! Caring for my residents while working with a great team of people has really helped me to adjust to Allied’s positive work environment.”

“Working with my residents every day just makes me so happy. I normally care for them by helping them with their medications and by helping them do tasks, but relating to them is my favorite. Talking with them and really listening to them gives me such joy. When I make a resident smile, I know that I am really making a difference.”

Although her residents make up a large part of her day, Esther loves interacting with her coworkers and supervisors too.

“They’re my home away from home. All of my supervisors and coworkers are great! Everyone is always willing to lend a helping hand whenever I need it even if they’re not assigned to what I’m doing. The communication is great and everyone is so friendly. I feel like I’ve really became part of a team.”

“Allied is a really good company, and I’m glad that I decided to become a PCA with them. I’m so proud to say that I work at Allied Services.”
