Careers in Focus: Engineers & Mechanics

Frank LaCoe of Clarks Summit is a Senior Chief Engineer at Allied Services, a fast-paced role that keeps him on his toes. As a member of the Facilities Department, Frank plays a vital role in supporting patient, visitor, and employee safety. On a daily basis, he works with contractors and other members of the Facilities Department to perform routine maintenance, make facility upgrades, or respond to emergencies. The role is rewarding for those who want to have an impact and make offices, residential buildings, and medical facilities a safer and more comfortable place for patients, residents, and staff.

"I could be working on a heating problem one day, responding to a water main break the next. Every day is truly different" says Frank. "It can be stressful, but there is always someone there to help you out. Your team members are always willing to lend a hand. If you need to make it to your kid's birthday party or doctor's appointment, there are always people willing to jump in and help you finish up the job."

Frank joined Allied Services more than 9 years ago as a Master Mechanic. His background was in refrigeration and while at Allied Services, he has maintained and grown his skills. He recommends the role for young people getting starting their careers.

"In a short time, you can learn about a wide variety of systems: plumbing, electrical, construction. And with the tuition assistance offered by Allied Services, you can take classes and courses to get qualified in those areas."
