New technology offers window to the world for residents of personal care home

Residents of Allied Services Meade Street Residence in Wilkes-Barre are enjoying trips to Italy, classical concerts, and museum tours, all thanks to new technology.

Rendever is a leading virtual reality solution, which has been designed specifically for senior living communities and healthcare organizations. Its groundbreaking VR platform and live programming delivers engaging group experiences that build thriving communities and meaningful social connections.

"We're excited to introduce this technology to our staff and residents at Meade Street Residence," commented Jim Cooney, Vice President of Skiled Nursing."We recognize that aging can be an isolating process in itself. Anything that we can do to help our residents stay engaged with the world around them, stay active, and involved can only help their quality of life."

"Our staff work hard to provide enrichment activities for our residents. Rendever takes that to a whole new level," says Cooney. "We can take residents outside the four walls of their home or even down memory lane with experiences that bring back happy memories."

The system includes individual head sets for residents that can offer personalized or group experiences. The headsets allow users to move around and interact with the experiences, all from the safety of their home.

The technology is much more than a fun activity for residents to participate in.Its use has been linked to improved mental, physical, and social health. It can drive improved mental health (cognitive stimulation, improved mood, reduced agitation and anxiety, and more), as well as improved physical health due to upper torso, neck and arm movement that is natural when using VR, core engagement, and reduced perception of pain.

More than 400 senior living communities utilize Rendever to enhance resident engagement. The technology's goals are to help users:

  • Relive: Customized reminiscence therapy tools allow residents to take a stroll down memory lane by revisiting their childhood home, wedding location or anywhere else from their past.
  • Reinspire: Provide opportunities for residents to virtually leave the four walls of their community to check off bucket list items and engage with the world in ways they never thought possible.
  • Reconnect: Create new friendships through the power of shared experience, all while providing unforgettable moments and stories that residents and their families will remember forever.

“I saw the negative effects of social isolation take a toll on my own grandmother as she dealt with the aging process. When I first saw seniors react to virtual reality, I knew there was something powerful to dive into, and have spent the last three years pouring my heart into a product that I know my grandmother would be proud of.” Kyle Rand, CEO, Rendever.
