“This endurance challenge is a way for me to show Nana that I am there for her, to raise awareness for all the residents in nursing homes, assisted living facilities and rehabilitation centers across the country and the world” comments Corey Cappelloni. “The run is also to honor the victims of coronavirus, including my great uncle Charles “Chuck” Gloman who passed away on May 11th, and to deeply thank all the heroic staff at Allied Services and similar organizations for putting the care of others first.”
Since the start of the pandemic, residents of nursing homes have faced increasing isolation as social distancing and other safety precautions prevent in-person visits from family members, friends and volunteers. Corey calls his grandmother every other day and regularly sends gifts to let her know she is not alone. Now, he is taking extra steps to show his support. He encourages others to join him.
“Go the extra step to show those in your life that you care - pick up the phone, write a letter, send a gift in the mail or call assisted living centers in your community and ask how you can help.” Members of the public can participate in a virtual run of any distance between June 12 and 19. “Use the hashtag #irunfor or please donate to Allied Services so they can continue to provide the care that our vulnerable need.”
