Heinz Rehab Hospital nurses earn advanced certification

Staff at Heinz Rehab Hospital in Wilkes-Barre gathered recently to celebrate the accomplishments of three members of the nursing team. In June, Kristina Coy, BSN, CRRN, Brian Pitts, BSN, CRRN, and Joann Leo RN, CRRN all earned the prestigious designation of Certified Rehabilitation Registered Nurse. To earn the certification, qualified nurses must demonstrate knowledge of both theory and practice in rehabilitation nursing, and pass an exhaustive examination. Rehabilitation nursing practice includes care management and treatment of conditions such as stroke, traumatic brain injury, aging issues, MS, diabetes, co-morbidities, cardiovascular illness, arthritis, and spinal cord injury.

In 2016, Heinz Rehab Hospital was ranked in the top 9% of rehabilitation hospitals nationwide according to independent review by the Uniform Data System for Medical Rehabilitation. The facility also received three-year full accreditation from the Commission on Accreditation for Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) in: comprehensive integrated inpatient rehabilitation for adults; brain injury specialty program for adults and children/adolescents; stroke specialty program for adults.
