Wellsboro’s Laura Robson to run in TCS NYC Marathon
by Lauren Gooch – November 2, 2016
Every year, more than 50,000 people run in the world’s largest and most popular marathon – The TCS New York City Marathon. WNEP’s Ryan Leckey leads a campaign called “WNEP’s Team Allied Services.” This campaign has been organized to raise money for Allied Services, a program to help those with disabilities and chronic illnesses overcome their challenges to reach their goals. To support WNEP’s Team Allied Services, Baker Tilly sends a representative each year to run in the TCS New York City Marathon.
This year, the representative is Laura Robson, a 36-year old paraprofessional at Baker Tilly in Wellsboro. Her 7-year old daughter, Jordis, unexpectedly suffered a stroke before she was born, leaving her with hemiplegia cerebral palsy. Because of this, she has had to endure physical and occupational therapy, balance issues, hand braces, and leg braces. Despite these difficulties, Jordis is determined to overcome these challenges. She has gone from barely being able to walk, to now being named the fastest runner in her class. Through these achievements and her incredible perseverance, Jordis has inspired her mother to train for the TCS New York City Marathon on November 5, 2016.
“I want Jordis to know that obstacles are meant to be overcome,” Laura stated. “I hope she looks to me for inspiration and determination.”
Although this is her first marathon, Laura has previously participated in two half marathons. After months of preparation, Laura is determined to achieve her best this weekend in the marathon.
We would like to encourage all of our Home Page viewers to help support Laura in this marathon by donating here. Every donation will benefit Allied Services through WNEP’s Team Allied Services. For every $30 you donate, you will receive a special moisture-wicking WNEP’s Team Allied Services exercise t-shirt. Thank you so much for your generosity and support!
