NIKKI TOUCHINSKY Orwigsburg, PA Team Member 2019

As a weightlifter, I rarely run. I never thought that I would want to run 26.2 miles. However, I am so excited to be running for an amazing cause! Working with children with special needs, I know how important the services that Allied provides are to help them improve their lives.

On November 3, Nikki Touchinsky will run the 2019 TCS New York City Marathon. This will be the first full marathon for the Nikki, who is running in honor of a much-loved patient at Allied Services.

Deirdre “Deedee” Keown is a lively 3 and ½ year old. She loves all things Paw Patrol and being the center of attention. She is a middle child and is very close to her big brother, Lucian, and younger sister, Scarlett. Deirdre’s medical journey started before she was born, when her mother Amanda learned that she had a spinal abnormality.

What was believed to be a spinal abnormality became OEIS: omphalocele, exstrophy of the bladder, intestinal complications, and spina bifida. Immediately after being born, she was life-flighted to Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. It was 48 days before Amanda was able to hold Deirdre. Before starting therapy at Allied Services, Deedee had limited mobility and could not eat or talk. She is now talking, crawling, strengthening her fine motor skills, and eating baby food. She continues to push and exceed expectations each day.

Deedee is everyone’s diva! She loves saying “hi” and “bye” to everyone she meets. She is the family’s “miracle baby.” She is wrapped around the finger of everyone she meets and has a special bond with her future stepfather, Chris. Although she has more surgery to go, nothing can get in the way of Deedee’s progress! Deedee does all of her therapy at Allied Services and her parents are extremely grateful for all that her team of therapists, doctors and specialists and most importantly Bayada pediatric nurses have done and continue to do for her.
