Heinz Rehabilitation Hospital to specialist Parkinson’s Disease training

John Rehab Hospital in Wilkes-Barre will host a one day seminar for health care professionals. The seminar, lead by , Josefa Maria Malta Domingos, Physiotherapist PD Specialist, MSc, PhD Researcher, and John Dean, MA, CCC-SLP, will focus on the how, when, and why of integrated dual cognitive, voice, and motor task training for Parkinson’s disease. This seminar will describe key components of dual task/multitask interventions for Parkinson’s, list several strategies to incorporate dual task exercises into interventions that can improve performance in functional activities, identify ways to increase complexity in order to progress multitask interventions during exercise and clinical activities, explain the potential significance of a “transdisciplinary” approach to rehabilitation, and list manifestations of indications of fatigue, overexertion, and any other potential complications. The information presented in this seminar will enable the clinician to utilize a new method of multitask training for Parkinson disease.
The seminar is open to physical therapists, physical therapy assistants, speech-language pathologists, occupational therapists, occupational therapy assistants, and athletic trainers. Participants are eligible for continuing education credits.
