Paul Harrington, 60, a resident of Scranton, died Friday morning at the Allied Hospice Center after an illness. He and his wife, the former Maribeth Leonard, would have celebrated their 36th wedding anniversary on Nov. 6.

Born in Scranton on Aug. 1, 1958, he was a member of St. Paul’s Parish. A 1976 graduate of Scranton Preparatory School, he received his Bachelor of Science degree in communication sciences and disorders from Marywood University and his Masters degree from Penn State University. He was previously employed by St. Joseph’s Center and Marywood University. Prior to his illness, he was employed as an outpatient speech pathologist by Allied Services Integrated Health System and Regional Hospital of Scranton.

He enjoyed reading, pickleball, racquetball. At the time of his diagnosis he was training for the New York City Marathon representing Ryan’s Run 8.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter, Megan.

The family would like to thank Dr. William Heim, the staff and nurses at the Northeast Oncology Center for all their compassionate care. Special thanks to our friends, the Browns, the Lynotts and our “Allied Family,” all who provided us with love, support and meals throughout the journey. Thank you also to Allied Services Hospice Center, the nurses and Dr. Glen Digwood who provided a safe and loving environment throughout Paul’s final days.

The funeral will be Saturday at 9:30 a.m. from the Solfanelli-Fiorillo Funeral Home Inc., 1030 N. Main Ave., Scranton, with Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Paul’s Church, 1501 Penn Ave., Scranton.

Friends may call on Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. in the funeral home.
