Grief and Art Support Group set to begin at Allied Services Hospice Center
Allied Services Hospice Center is pleased to be partnering with local artist, Marylou Chibirka, to host “Good Grief Art: Learn to Paint through your loss.” The program is aimed at adults who have experienced the loss of a loved one or pet. It is open to any adult who has experienced loss, at any time in life.
Beginning on April 27th, the 10 –week program will feature classes every Friday from noon to 1:30 p.m. at Allied Services Hospice Center, 511 Morgan Highway, Scranton. The program is free but registration is required by contacting Kathleen Haikes, Volunteer Coordinator at khaike@allied-services.org or 570.340.6487.
“Good Grief Art” is an established program that Chibirka has offered locally since 2016. It is open to all skill levels; beginners are welcome. During the 10-week class, Chibirka leads students, working from photos, through a journey of sharing memories of their deceased loved ones on canvas as they learn to paint. Guest speakers offer their insights into the healing process. Chibirka has found that the group nature of the class encourages dialogue and support between members of the class.
Chibirka is a professional artist who was born and lives in Dalton, Pa. She studied at the University of Indiana of Pennsylvania and has degrees in Painting and Art History.
