New technology benefits patients at Allied Services Respiratory Unit

Allied Services Skilled Nursing and Rehab Center in Scranton recently introduced new technology benefitting patients in its pulmonary rehab program. Thanks to funds raised through WNEP TV’s Team Allied Services, Allied purchased 16 ventilators. The new ventilators offer greater mobility, allowing patients the freedom to engage in activities of daily living and participate fully in physical, occupational, speech, recreational and music therapy throughout the facility. Additional updates to the design of the units offer greater patient safety and ease of use for respiratory therapists.

Allied Services Skilled Nursing and Rehab Center in Scranton is the only skilled nursing center in the region that offers a dedicated respiratory unit. The 21-bed unit, led by a board certified Pulmonologist, utilizes a multi-disciplinary approach to providing respiratory care to residents and patients. The unit’s licensed respiratory therapists provide extensive pulmonary care for the most medically complex patients, both on a post-acute and chronic long-term level.

With the arrival of the new ventilators, four units will be repurposed for educational purposes. Allied Services will donate the ventilators to Luzerne County Community College and Stark State College in Ohio to assist respiratory therapy students.
