Marjorie (Hibby) H.

Marjorie H., known as “Hibby” to friends and family, has a history of beating the odds. She is a fifteen year cancer survivor and is currently battling cancer of the kidney at age 94. But when her daughter Sue noticed she was having trouble walking a straight line, she was concerned.

Sue had a stroke five years ago and knows how important early intervention is when getting physical therapy. She brought Marjorie to a specialist who diagnosed her with dementia. Since Sue was unable to be with her mother 24 hours a day, she made the decision to have her mother move into a skilled nursing facility.

While Sue lived close to another skilled nursing facility, she wanted her mother to go to Allied’s Skilled Nursing and Rehab Center. “My mother became a resident of the Alzheimer’s Unit in July of 2011 and within a couple weeks she was walking straight again and she started putting on weight”, Sue said.

Marjorie has made tremendous progress, is now walking well and using word-search books when unable to explain something to her nurses or therapists. She gets along great with all her therapists, who say she is unbelievable.”My mother loves it up there. The nurses, the aides, they’re all wonderful,” says Sue.

“Nobody believes she’s 94 years old. She always walking, she doesn’t sit down”, Sue said. Determined to stay active both mentally and physically, Marjorie is inspiring to everyone she meets.
