Faye K.’s experience with Allied Services Integrated Health System goes back many years. The 69 year old Dalton resident was a Registered Nurse from 1966 to 2000. During her career, she worked as Assistant Director of Nursing at Allied Services Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She also worked with adults with disabilities in Allied’s Community Services Division. For the past 15 years, Faye’s daughter has been employed as a
physical therapist in Allied Services’ Rehab Unit at Moses Taylor Hospital.

Faye has also experienced Allied from a patient’s perspective. She has relied on their services for rotator cuff issues and a left knee replacement. Most recently, she turned to Allied to help prepare her for a knee replacement. Her therapists at the Scranton Rehab Hospital worked with Faye to strengthen her knee prior to surgery. Due to complications, she needed a second surgery.

Faye was admitted as an inpatient to Allied Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center where she worked with a team of nurses, physical therapists and occupational therapists. “

[The therapists] did a lot of different modalities, all of which were beneficial to my progress,” she says. Her favorite exercise was using the NuStep—a machine that simultaneously moved her arms and legs. “I would always ask to do that as a reward for doing well that day,” she says.

Michael, her husband of 49 years, was impressed with the care she received from the nursing staff during her stay. He observed that the employees were always pleasant and attentive. “They wouldn’t let patients sit for 2 or 3 hours without doing anything,” he says. Faye adds that, “All the therapists, and even the nursing assistants, are very knowledgeable. They definitely follow the Mission Statement for Allied.”

With the support and experience of the rehabilitation team, Faye regained her strength and independence and within 6 weeks, was discharged home. She was able to continue making gains in her recovery, thanks to Allied Services’ Home Health staff who provided physical and occupational therapy and nursing care in her home.

Faye has seen a definite improvement in her mobility since her recovery began. Although she is moving slowly, she is building up her strength every day. She hopes to eventually walk with a cane instead of a walker—a goal she is confident she will reach with the knowledge and expertise of her physical therapists. She also looks forward to transitioning from Home Health to Allied’s Outpatient Physical Therapy, a program she trusts for its excellence. “There is no place other than Allied,” she says. “I recommend it highly to everyone for rehab.”
