Nicholas Succeeds!

Unlike many children with developmental disabilities, Nicholas' birth was "normal". But his parents noticed that, at six to eight months, he was not sitting up and standing like most toddlers. Soon after, a neurologist diagnosed a developmental delay and microcephaly (small skull size). Subsequently, Nicholas was diagnosed with cerebral palsy. Nicholas received in-home therapy, but made little progress. His primary care physician referred him to Allied Services, a "premier pediatric therapy" facility, in 2005. Allied therapists Nikki Dixon, Lynn Dunay, and Paul Harrington are on Nicholas' treatment team. In physical therapy, he is working on balance and standing. In occupational therapy, he's making the transition from a baby bottle to a drinking cup. And in speech and language, Nicholas is learning sign language. With his older brother Anthony as a playmate and helper, and the encouragement of his family, Nicholas is succeeding.
