Brandon Orlowski is like every
other 9 year old boy. He lives with his parents Rebecca
and Sean in Swoyersville. Brandon attended public
schools in the Wyoming Valley for the first few years of
his life.
While in the first grade, Brandon developed (what were perceived as) reading challenges. Brandon's teacher would read a story in class, then Brandon would bring the book home and "read" it to his parents. The only challenge was that Brandon's parents realized that he was not truly reading, but instead memorizing the story as the teacher told it. When second grade was becoming too much of a burden, the public school district and the school psychologist tested Brandon for a learning disability (LD).
On a whim, his parents attended a public speaking
engagement with Dr. John Harvey, Director of Psychology
for Allied Services Rehabilitation Hospital. During Dr.
Harvey's presentation, the Orlowski's knew that Brandon
had dyslexia. As mom Rebecca states, "the light bulb went
on.” For the first time in two frustrating years they understood
Brandon's challenges and discovered help.
Soon after, they enrolled Brandon in Allied's dePaul School Summer Program. In 17-1⁄2 days of Summer remediation, Brandon made great advancements. The Orlowski's committed resources to enroll Brandon in the dePaul School for the next full school year, and he has flourished ever since. The sky's the limit for Brandon's future.
