Mary Beck "My favorite thing about working at Allied is making friends."
Mary Beck

After working as a housekeeper for ten years, Mary Beck was laid off. Her social worker and her parents wanted her to remain busy, so they contacted Allied Vocational Services.

Mary assembles parts for ceiling fans and seals them in bags that are sent to a factory to be manufactured. She has worked in Allied's Vocational Division for the past two years. She is a very versatile employee who rarely misses a day of work. "I really like working at Allied," says Mary.

Mary saves most of her pay, but sometimes splurges on Harry Potter books, CDs, and DVDs. She bowls every Tuesday and loves to attend dances.

Glenn Bohlander "Being able to speak again was wonderful."
Glenn Bohlander

Glenn Bohlander has lived at Allied Services Skilled Nursing Center for ten years. He has muscular dystrophy, and needs a ventilator. Before he came to Allied, Glenn was unable to speak for 13 years because of his trache and ventilator. In the first few months here, Allied provided him with a speaking valve and other technology to assist in his communication. "I can communicate my needs, talk on the phone, talk to my visitors, and use a voice-activated computer," says Glenn.

Glenn is very grateful that the staff has made it possible to attend events which are important to him. He attended his mother's memorial service, several baseball games, the Nutcracker Ballet, and even Cirque du Soleil at the Arena. "I'm glad to be at Allied Skilled Nursing Center," says Glenn.

Peg Boland "You don't have to think twice about living at Allied Terrace."
Peg Boland

Peg Boland lived with her late husband Bob in Moscow. When taking care of their large house became too much for them they moved to Allied Terrace. At the end of Bob's life he had feeding challenges, so the staff would serve the couple meals in their apartment. "It was wonderful," says Peg. "I couldn't have asked for more."

Now Peg goes to the rosary group and takes exercise classes every day. She goes to News Talk on Mondays, where residents get together to talk about current events, and attends the Book Club.

"The care here is terrific," says Peg. "All the girls are so wonderful. They take care of everyone without complaint. They really are terrific."

Robin Bonacci "The therapists at Allied Rehab don't give up on you. They never let you give up."
Robin Bonacci

Nine years ago, Robin Bonacci was in an automobile accident and broke five bones in her neck. She was sent to Allied Services Rehab Hospital to learn to walk again. Robin says, "The therapists at Allied are very determined; they don't give up on you. They always find a way to make something work."

Robin is proud she has progressed from a coma, to using a wheelchair, to using a walker, to walking with two canes. She hopes to walk with one cane soon. Robin says, "It's amazing how Allied therapists bring your spirits up if you're having a bad day. They never let you give up."
