Diane Dixon

I have worked as a Physical Therapy Assistant for Allied Services for 29 years. For the past 16, I’ve enjoyed helping patients in the aquatic therapy program at Heinz Rehab in Wilkes-Barre.

I’ve always been a sports enthusiast, but didn’t start running until the age of 36, mostly to relieve stress and to get healthy. I started running in 1994, and one year later, I ran the 1995 New York City marathon. I ran the Steamtown marathon 3 times and the Anchorage, Alaska marathon once. Since then, I’ve run some half marathons and 5ks, mostly running for fun and fitness.

I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to run in the New York City marathon again with Team Leckey (even though I am 17 years older and 17 pounds heavier than the last one) and to help raise money for and raise awareness of the great programs at Allied Services.  I have met many inspiring people in my years at Heinz and no matter how hard the training and the marathon race itself will be for me, it will be nothing compared to the hardships our patients face every day.  I will run for them…because I can!
