As thousands of runners wait nervously to hear whether they have secured a place in the 2012 New York City Marathon, one area runner received the good news that they will be a member of Team Leckey, running in this epic race on November 4, 2012.

Every year, more than 100,000 runners apply to compete in the NYC Marathon, but only 47,000 are lucky enough to secure a place. As an official Bronze charity of the 2012 NYC Marathon, Allied Services Integrated Health System ran its own lottery, offering local athletes the opportunity to join the team of 20 runners who will represent the charity and its sponsors in NYC on November 4, 2012. For the third year, the team, led by WNEP-TV’s Ryan Leckey, will raise vital funds for children and adults with disabilities through the Ryan’s Run campaign.

Bill ‘Mac’ Magdeburg, a resident of Pottsville, beat out regional runners in the Allied Services marathon lottery to win a coveted spot on the Ryan’s Run Team. Bill, who is currently studying for his transitional doctorate at the University of Scranton, will juggle training for the marathon with his work at Schuylkill Medical Center South and time with wife and four children. Bill started running in 2010, completing two marathons by the end of 2011. This will be Bill’s first time running the NYC Marathon.
