Allied Services - dePaul School for Dyslexia

The dePaul School’s mission is to teach students with dyslexia and other related learning disabilities how to learn. Our dedicated, specially-trained faculty offer a well-structured system of programs aimed at maximizing abilities and compensating for disabilities. The school’s programs are consistent with Allied’s commitment to help children overcome learning disabilities so they can return to conventional classrooms equipped with the academic skills and confidence they need to succeed.

Our Teaching Philosophy

We teach the way our students learn. We do extensive research to determine the techniques that are most effective in helping overcome specific disabilities. We lead each student to understand his or her own learning style, including identifying which strategies are most successful and how to take advantage of strengths and cope with chronic difficulties.

We teach students how to study, take notes and use organizational skills to gain independence in their learning. All learning takes place in small groups where the maximum class size is seven students.

Programs & Services

School Program
Provides a highly structured and organized educational setting with small group instruction in linguistics, math, oral reading, language arts and auditory. The school serves students age 7 to 14 and is ungraded. Children are grouped according to ability, with ages considered. Class sizes are limited to a seven-to-one student-teacher ratio, which permits more interaction and an opportunity to recognize the educational, emotional and social strengths and weaknesses of each student.
Summer Program
For grades 1-8, a four week summer program where students with dyslexia are tutored in linguistics, math, reading, organizational activities and individualized attention and concentration drills.
Tutoring
For ages 6 to adult, a tutoring program which is offered year-round and provides individual or small-group instruction in a wide variety of academic (and social) subjects. Our specially-trained staff monitors provide attention, encouragement and structured presentations required for academic success.

Criteria For Admission

The dePaul School is intended for students, ages 7-14, of average or above-average intelligence who have been diagnosed with a learning difference that includes any one or a combination of the following :

  • Dyslexia
  • Reading, writing or spelling disorders
  • Attention Deficit Disorder
  • Organization-related problems
  • Poor reading comprehension and fluency difficulties
