Allied Services - Community Services

When Allied Services was founded over 50 years ago, the first program was Vocational, so that persons with disabilities could be trained for real jobs in the community. In addition to its many rehabilitation medicine programs that have evolved since then, Allied continues the tradition of offering programs that support its clients and consumers in gaining life skills such as work skills, life skills, and academic skills so that they can be independent and successful in spite of mental or physical challenges.

Community Services Programs

Behavioral Health
Allied Services Behavioral Health Division began operations in 1979, with the opening of ?Harbor House? Program, a thirty bed Community Residential Rehabilitation Facility (CRR), which provides a wide range of supports and skills training to individuals with mental illness. The Division?s Supported Living Program began in 1990, and currently provides housing supports to over one hundred and twenty people in Lackawanna and Susquehanna Counties.

Burnley Employment & Rehabilitation
Established in 1964, Burnley empowers individuals with disabilities by helping them to achieve their full social, vocational and economic potential. Our founders aimed to create an organization to provide stimulating work, steady pay and the chance for those with disabilities to be tax-paying, involved members of the community.

dePaul School for Dyslexia
The dePaul School?s mission is to teach students with dyslexia and other related learning disabilities how to learn. Our dedicated, specially-trained faculty offer a well-structured system of programs aimed at maximizing abilities and compensating for disabilities. The school?s programs are consistent with Allied?s commitment to help children overcome learning disabilities so they can return to conventional classrooms equipped with the academic skills and confidence they need to succeed.

Developmental Services
Allied Services offers one of the most comprehensive residential systems in Pennsylvania. Through its Intermediate Care Facilities for Individuals with Mental Retardation (ICF/MR), Allied addresses the unique needs of individuals with developmental disabilities and assists them in reaching their fullest potential.

Toy Adaptation
Through the Toy Adaptation Program, we work with children to modify toys so they can easily use and enjoy them. We offer free adaptations year round and increased services during the holiday months. Allied Services? therapists are able to adapt almost any toy from puzzles to electronics. We do our best to accommodate you and your child by making mail-in toys available for adaptations as well. Our goal is to encourage play and make it accessible to every child no matter their disability.

Vocational Program
For over 50 years, Allied’s’ Vocational Seervices programs have provided training and gainful employment to teens and adults with physical, intellectual and developmental disabilities. Each year, over 500 participants are involved in projects that enhance their skills, employability and self-reliance. While our vocational programs draw upon State and federal training dollars, the jobs themselves depends upon a continual supply of work from business and industry partners for services such as packaging, light assembly, sorting, scanning, mailing, cleaning and landscaping.
