On Saturday, October 8, more than 500 people gathered at Tobyhanna Federal Credit Union Field at Scranton Memorial Stadium. They were there for WNEP’s Ryan’s Run 5k and All-Abilities Walk, an event focused on celebrating the accomplishments and physical milestones of past and present patients of Allied Services Integrated Health System. The event, now in its fourth year, was supported by Signature Event Sponsors, Aon and Quantum Rehab. Aon employees volunteered their time, handing out water to runners, presenting medals and cheering on the runners and walkers throughout the morning.
Almost 400 runners and walkers participated in the 5k race. The field included high school athletes, first-time racers, wheelchair participants, members of youth running clubs, and supporters between the ages of 5 and 72 years old. Following the 5k race, both pediatric and adult patients took to the track at Scranton Memorial Stadium for the All-Abilities Walk. Participants completed differing distances, some walking with the aid of a family member or walker, others completing 100 meters or more unassisted. They were cheered on by family members, supporters and Scranton Prep cheerleaders.
