Allied Services Physical Therapist earns specialist running certification

John Martino, PT, DPT, staff physical therapist at Allied Services Luger Rehab Center in Scranton, recently became a Certified Pose® Method Specialist. The certification offered by the Romanov Academy of Sports Science focuses on the Pose® method of running and equips sports professionals to identify and teach proper running form and injury prevention. The certification is designed to teach physical therapists and physical therapist assistants to identify and address movement related inefficiencies and injuries in a prompt and effective manner.

The Pose®Method was developed by 2-time Olympic coach Dr. Nicholas S. Romanov. During the 2-day course, Martino learned how to utilize video analysis and running technique assessment tools to analyze running gait, movement patterns and to identify deviations from the standard established by the Pose method framework with the goal of reducing running related injuries, reduction of eccentric knee loading and the improvement in running form.

Martino, of Dallas, received his Doctorate in Physical Therapy from Misericordia University and has been employed by Allied Services since 2007. He is an accomplished runner having won or placed in many short to intermediate distance races. He is a board member of the Wyoming Valley Striders and represented Allied Services in the TCS New York City Marathon in 2013.
