Harrisburg – Secretary of Health Michael Wolf today presented two facilities operated by Allied Services Integrated Health System with the state’s award for “Excellence in Health Care Compliance,” an award recognizing the efforts of delivering consistent quality care to the citizens of the commonwealth.

Allied Services Institute of Rehabilitation and the John Heinz Institute of Rehabilitation were two of seven selected for the award out of 220 healthcare facilities in the state and the only two in the northeast region of the state. Awardees were honored by the department during National Healthcare Quality Week.

“Governor Corbett’s Healthy Pennsylvania initiative focuses on ensuring affordable, quality health care for all Pennsylvanians, and it’s important that we recognize those facilities that are excelling at these goals,” said Wolf. “This award signifies the positive contributions and hard work of those who deliver top-notch care every day to the families and communities they serve. It is a remarkable achievement for a health system to have one facility, let alone two, receive this award.”

The Department of Health licenses and oversees hospitals statewide, including acute care hospitals, long-term acute care hospitals, critical access hospitals, rehabilitation hospitals, children’s hospitals and psychiatric hospitals. In addition, the department conducts about 2,000 inspections annually, including licensure and certification surveys, follow-up surveys and complaint investigations.

Facilities receiving the award were required to have no health citations during the last state licensure survey and no major life safety code deficiencies on the last building inspection. All department-licensed hospitals were eligible for the awards and did not need to apply to be considered.

“We’re honored that our rehabilitation hospitals have been recognized as part of this very select group of award-winners. These awards reflect the hard work and expertise of our clinicians, caregivers and support staff,” said President and Chief Executive Officer of Allied Services Integrated Health System Bill Conaboy.

During the event, Wolf highlighted Governor Corbett’s Healthy Pennsylvania plan, which aims to increase access to affordable, quality health care for all Pennsylvanians.

“Hospitals receiving this award are already supporting the Governor’s plan and doing their part by providing the best care possible to their patients,” added Wolf.
